PROGRAMMING MANAGER (1989-1994)
Built and managed a growing, 15 person programming department responsible for all systems development and support. Created a new recruiting selection system for technical staff that reduced turnover and resulted in greater teamwork and professionalism.
Wrote the corporate Systems Design Methodology (SDM) which has made both design and documentation more consistent as well as improving quality.
Managed design and installation of check-printing and mailing system, incorporating address "scrub" technology (for compliance with postal regulations), laser print capabilities (to imprint variable logo and bank data on up to 100,000 checks issued daily), and postal sorting (which saved $500,000 in reduced postal charges the first year).
Initiated a system migration from Data General COBOL systems to Sequent UNIX/PROGRES systems. Project leader on migration
PROJECT LEADER (1987-1994)
Presented, justified, designed and implemented the installation of an on-line report request system that significantly improved access for over 100 users. Systems included on-line scheduling capabilities that eliminated the need for an entire computer operations shift, at considerable savings to the company. Organized and supervised a team of three programmers and system analysts.
Led development of bar code and UPC scanning system that improved work speed and accuracy, while also providing automated customer counts and validation. Rescued the failing project in mid-stream and brought it to successful completion.
Managed a team of eight that created a flexible pick-and-pack shipping system that also provided history-based data on consumer orders. Presented first labels after five weeks.
